About Qingdao

Dubbed "the Switzerland of the Orient" with its riot of colours and European architecture, Qingdao is one of China's most significant ports. With its excellent access to Japan and Korea, it is at the heart of China’s textile industry. Located on the southern coastline of the Shandong Peninsula in east China, it is flanked by sea and mountains.

Sailing events for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games are being held in Qingdao.
The Qingdao International Sailing Centre occupies the site of the Beihai shipyard by Fushan Bay in the Shangdong Province. A whole range of facilities is being built, including a pontoon to create additional observation points. An Olympic Memorial Wall is also under construction. The Olympics has presented a wonderful opportunity to Qingdao to build a bright future.
